The 100-Year Rise of the Information Control State | Jacob Siegel

How did “disinformation” become the all-purpose explanation for American politics? Journalist Jacob Siegel joins me on the podcast this week to explain, in a conversation about his new book The Information State: Politics in the Age of Total Control.

It’s a really great book that traces the history of government attempts to control information flows, starting with the Progressive Era, Woodrow Wilson, and World War I and continuing forward to the Hunter Biden laptop story suppression and the the present today. Beyond complaints about censorship, Siegel gives constructive ideas for how we should be looking at information control in a digitally connected world in which there are in fact many foreign malign actors.

Note: Due to Youtube difficulties, I am having trouble uploading the video version of the podcast. I will plan to update this post later when I get this fixed, and also share it in this week’s digest.
