Political Boss? Tom Dennison of Omaha was more like a Vice Lord. An Irishman who could play the social pathologies of the Irish like a fiddle. Too bad for the Negros who migrated to Omaha. You can call the 1919 riot - a race riot, or you

can call it a labor riot, but nobody could pin it on Dennison. Everyone knew he was the commander. Hung the Republican Mayor, burned the courthouse and butchered poor Willy Brown, before they burnt his body on the lawn. Menard's Political Bossism in Mid-America: Tom Dennison's Omaha, 1900–1933 is still the standard work if you want the deep version.

The cities of America have always been plagued with the special dystopia of unbridled growth. NYC grew from half a million souls in 1850 - to seven million in 1930. Chicago grew from 300,000 in 1870 to 1.7 million thirty years later in 1900. Too many Irishman! Aaron Renn should write more about the WASP elite that have historically run American cities. Haha.
